Holly 'Blue Princess': (Ilex x mereveae 'Blue Princess')  The hardiest evergreen holly shrub available (-24) and the best fruit producer (at least two bushes are required for fruit)...in our climate hollies require a sheltered area free of winter sun...proper cultural techniques must also be orserved: plant high, amend soil with organic matter and regular applications of acid-based fertilizer...will grow up to 10' or can be pruned off to keep a compact size. Maple, Amur: (Acer ginnala)  A maple that is smaller and has the shape of a bush...Amur maple is also one of the toughest and hardiest maples: will grow anywhere in the state (to zone 3) and it tolerates poor soils...Attractive in spring, summer and fall: nicely shaped, fragrant spring flowers; lustrous, waxy and dark green leaves with a vivid red fall color; showy red seeds from late June to September...Slow and low growing (20 ft.) makes the Amur maple an ideal shrub for patios and small gardens...Has the typically heavy maple seed crops each year which can lead to weed seedlings...A great colorful small maple for especially for patios and in newer subdivisions with poor soil. Available for purchase now: 3-4 ft. (1 available) $40

Redbud, Eastern (multi-stem): (Cercis canadensis 'Minnesota Strain')  One of the more vivid spring flower shows around - a reddish-lavender spectacle that appears on all wood, not just the prior year’s growth as with most flowering trees…Also has attractive, dark slate grey bark and dark green, heart-shaped leaves which emerge a reddish purple and turn to a warm yellow in the fall…Redbuds grow to about 20 feet tall…We offer 'Minnesota Strain' multi-stem trees that assure hardiness to -30 or more. Smoke Tree ‘Grace’ (Cotinus coggygria ‘Grace’) Everything about this smoke tree is red or dark purple or a combination of both: the flowers, leaves and even the trunk and branches all carry the theme….Flowers are showy and unusual powdery or ‘smoky’ masses up to 14” long that create a strong focal point for most of the summer...Fall color is a decent red...Can be a small tree or bush depending on how pruning is carried out…Grows to about 10 feet and is commonly cut to the ground annually to encourage new shoots that grow quickly and feature more vivid colors than those on older wood…Does well in most soils but needs a lot of sun for optimal color effect...Root hardy to -30; stem hardy to -20. Order now for April 2010 delivery: 4 ft tall (1 available) $25
